Things I Read

I started re-reading one of my favorite autobiographies - the story of George Müller. It was instrumental for me in my earlier years of ministry, and I am always edified when I go back to it.

Things I Listened To

I actually listened to this discussion of Doug Wilson and friends interviewing Al Mohler. It reminded me of this documentary I watched several years ago that tells the story of how Mohler turned the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary - which was plunging headlong into theological liberalism - around.

Things I Watched

Ashley and I celebrated our 18th anniversary on June 20th, and got to enjoy a few days away. We watched The Remains of the Day (starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson), Sense and Sensibility (not the long BBC version, but the Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson one, for those who care) and a newly released documentary about Paul McCartney called Man on the Run.

Things I Thought

This week is Michael's last week in the office here, and this Sunday we're commissioning him! I'm thinking about how I will miss him, and how I am confident that the Lord will use him in this good work at La Sierra. I am also thinking about the members who will be going along with him, and the step of faith it is for them. Praise God.

Quotes to Ponder

"The following guidelines will help a believer build his faith:

  1. Carefully read the Word and meditate on it. Through reading the Word of God, and especially through meditation on it, the believer becomes acquainted with the nature and character of God. Besides God's holiness and justice, he realizes what a kind, loving, gracious, merciful, mighty, wise, and faithful Father He is. Therefore, in poverty, affliction, death of loved ones, difficulty in service, or financial need, he will rest on the ability of God to help him. He has learned from the Word that God is almighty in power, infinite in wisdom, and ready to help and deliver His people. Reading the Word of God, together with meditation on it, is an excellent way to strengthen faith."
